INFORMATION ABOUT PUERTO AYSEN AND PUERTO CHACABUCO
• The northern part of the Chilean Patagonia corresponds to the large region of Aysén, the third biggest region in surface and the least populated, having a density of 0,8 inhabitants per square meter.
• In the eastern part of the region, it is the commune of Aysén, having about 20.000 inhabitants. This city is mainly characterized by its natural resources, among which are the glaciers, lakes, fjords, rivers and channels, which are becoming an important tourist destination.
• The main city of this commune is Puerto Aysén, which is located on both borders of the abundant Río Aysén, the main affluent of which are the Río Simpson, the Río Mañihuales and the Río Blanco.
• Puerto Aysén is located to 65 kilometers of the Regional Capital, Coyhaique, and to single 15 kilometers of Puerto Chacabuco, main Puerto and entry point to the Region of Aisén by sea. • The climate in Puerto Aysén is mild-rainy. The average rainfall in a year is 3.000 millimeters and it has an average mean temperature of 8 Celsius degrees, with a minimum temperature of -6 Celsius degrees in winter and a maximum of 25° C in summer.
• The economy of Puerto Aysén is mainly developed in the fishing field, the seafood exploitation and the tourism, particularly the eco-tourism and the sport fishing.
Puerto Aysén has all the facilities required by a tourist: Banks, disbursing cashier, Internet, a tourism information office, gas stations, restaurants, hotels, cottages, lodging places, a hospital, tourism agencies, among others.
